Internship/Volunteer Opportunites

We are currently seeking creative individuals with an interest in fair trade to intern with our team on merchandising, communications, and digital marketing projects!  This is a great opportunity to develop a better understanding of fair trade business practices and get hands-on experience in all the different components of an online/retail/wholesale business. Internship positions are approximately 3 months in duration. Hours are flexible and range from 10-20 hrs per week, and we can work around a class or work schedules. This is an unpaid position located in our Northbrook or Chicago offices. Interns are also welcome to work from home and meet with us virtually at least once a week. Interns are required to have their own laptops with Microsoft Office software (photoshop or adobe illustrator is a plus). While this is an unpaid internship the opportunity to work at off-site retail sales events may come up, in which case the pay is $15/hr.

Communications/Exhibit Design Intern:

Jan – May 2019

Duties

  • Assist with preparations and launch of Wounaan Art Exhibit 2019.
  • Assist with writing and designing storyboards for the exhibit.
  • Design point-of-sale signage to better communicate Wounaan story.
  • Prepare press release for special events.
  • Assist with retail sales events during the Wounaan Art Exhibit.
  • Design and direct photo shoot of Wounaan products.
  • Assist with re-design of merchandising materials such as tags, story cards, thank you cards, etc. 

Qualifications 

  • Pursuing undergraduate studies in communications, museum studies, anthropology, PR, graphic design, marketing, art history, or related field.
  • Access to and knowledge of graphic design software a plus.
  • Must be a self-starter, detail oriented, have excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Customer Service experience a plus.
  • Graphic design skills are a plus.
  • Ability to prioritize and multitask.
  • Strong verbal communication and writing skills.
  • Strong interest in fair trade, social justice, environment, indigenous or Colombia.
  • Chicago area preferred. Exhibit events will take place downtown in April and May.

Digital Marketing Intern:

For spring, summer, and fall 2019.

Duties

  • Develop and implement digital marketing strategies for wholesale and retail websites.
  • Develop Google Ads for the wholesale website.
  • Assess and manage google analytics reporting.
  • Schedule and create content for social media and email marketing including Instagram, Pinterest, FB, and MailChimp lists.
  • Assist with website management: updating product descriptions, events, SEO.

Qualifications 

  • Pursuing undergraduate studies in marketing, web development, IT, or related field.
  • Knowledge of Shopify, Google analytics, Google ads, and MailChimp is preferred.
  • Must be a self-starter, detail oriented, have excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and multitask.
  • Strong verbal communication and writing skills.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset.
  • Strong interest in fair trade, social justice, or e-commerce.
  • Chicago or Northbrook area preferred, but not required.

    Volunteer Opportunities

    Do you have a desire to help a locally-owned fair trade business? There are several ways you can help, no matter where you live. 

    Northbrook location: We are in need of volunteers with the ability to drive to our Northbrook location to help with fulfilling wholesale and retail orders, especially during peak seasons.  

    USA:  Got skills in customer service, graphic design, photography, e-commerce, or social media? We welcome any help in chasing down wholesale leads via phone or email, editing product photos, adding content to the website, adding products to Etsy, and posting on Pinterest or Instagram.
